A mixed-model container can help a distributor, retailer or project buyer combine several folding-table formats in one shipment. It can also create avoidable problems if the mix is based on product photographs, old loading quantities or unapproved carton assumptions.

Effective container planning begins with controlled packaging data for every SKU. The objective is not simply to fill the container. The plan should protect the products, support practical unloading, preserve SKU identification and match the buyer's warehouse or distribution sequence.

Why Mixed-Model Container Planning Starts Before the PO

The requested product mix affects quotation, packaging-material quantities, production sequencing, container utilization and loading time. Buyers should therefore identify the intended mix at the RFQ stage, even if the final ratio is not yet fixed.

A useful starting request includes the model, quantity range, destination, container type, floor-loaded or palletized preference, carton-mark requirements and any limits imposed by the receiving warehouse. If one container will serve several stores or project locations, that should also be stated.

Do not begin with a historic statement such as “this model loads X pieces.” A loading quantity is valid only for a defined product configuration, packaging specification and loading method. A change in carton dimensions, internal protection, pallet footprint or model mix can change the result.

Create a Packaging Master for Every SKU

Product and folded dimensions

The product master should identify the open dimensions and the folded configuration. This information helps confirm that the correct model is being discussed and explains why models with similar open lengths may use container space differently.

For example, the BTE-2971FH is a 6 ft fold-in-half table with a published open size of 180 x 74 x 74 cm. The BTE-1872 seminar table has a published open size of 180 x 45 x 74 cm and a folded size of 180 x 45 x 4.5 cm. The BTE-3434FH square fold-in-half table has a published open size of 86 x 86 x 74 cm and folded size of 86 x 44.5 x 8 cm.

These figures confirm that the models are not interchangeable in a loading calculation. The final calculation must use the approved packed dimensions, not only the open product dimensions.

Carton dimensions, gross weight and protection

For each SKU, record:

  • pieces per carton;
  • approved carton dimensions;
  • net and gross weight;
  • internal protection and corner protection;
  • polybag or surface-protection method;
  • label and barcode position;
  • carton orientation limits;
  • pallet pattern if palletized;
  • maximum approved stack or handling instruction, when applicable.

The master should have a revision date. If the packaging changes, the loading plan should be recalculated. An extra protective component may reduce damage risk but also increase carton size. That trade-off should be reviewed with the buyer rather than hidden inside a theoretical loading number.

Choose Floor Loading or Palletized Loading

Floor loading normally uses container volume more directly because no pallet occupies space. However, individual cartons may require more manual handling at loading and unloading. The buyer should confirm whether the receiving operation can unload loose cartons efficiently.

Palletized loading can improve handling and warehouse transfer, but the pallet footprint, pallet height, overhang limits, stretch wrap, strapping and total pallet weight must be defined. Palletized and floor-loaded quantities should never be compared as if they use the same calculation.

The chosen method should be written in the quotation and purchase order. If a buyer requests both alternatives, the supplier should issue two separate loading assumptions.

Build the Container Mix by Cube, Weight and Handling Logic

Separate theoretical and confirmed quantities

A spreadsheet can produce a theoretical quantity from carton dimensions and container volume. That is a planning estimate, not final evidence that every carton will fit safely.

The confirmed plan should consider actual carton orientation, door opening, internal container dimensions, stacking stability, weight distribution and practical loading gaps. For a mixed-model order, the interaction between different carton sizes matters. A cube calculation that treats every SKU independently can overstate the final mixed quantity.

Use three labels in the planning file:

  1. preliminary estimate;
  2. packaging-approved calculation;
  3. final supplier-confirmed loading plan.

This prevents an early estimate from becoming a contractual quantity without review.

Plan unloading sequence by destination

Loading is also a sequence problem. If a container will be unloaded at one warehouse, the buyer may prioritize carton stability and SKU separation. If it serves multiple destinations, the last delivery may need to be loaded first and clearly blocked from the first-delivery goods.

Ask for a model-by-model loading map or at least a written sequence. Use visible carton marks and avoid splitting a SKU across inaccessible positions unless the receiving team agrees. Spare cartons or promotional material should be included in the plan rather than added at the door after the calculation is complete.

Use Product Examples Without Assuming Interchangeability

A mixed order might combine a full-width commercial table, a narrow seminar table and a compact square table. Each serves a different channel or application:

  • BTE-2971FH: 6 ft fold-in-half format for commercial, event and rental uses;
  • BTE-1872: 180 x 45 cm seminar format for training rooms, schools, offices and conferences;
  • BTE-3434FH: compact 86 x 86 cm square fold-in-half format for events, catering and rental programs.

The published pages confirm product dimensions and intended applications. They do not create a universal container ratio. The buyer should select the commercial mix first and then ask the factory to calculate the loading arrangement from the approved packaging data.

Control Damage Risk and Loading Evidence

Container utilization should not be increased by removing agreed protection without approval. The loading team should follow the carton orientation and protection rules. Heavy or stable cartons should not create concentrated pressure that can deform lighter cartons or product surfaces.

For the BTE-2971FH, Bestone's internal test record also notes an improved packaging-protection solution intended to reduce handling and transportation damage risk. That statement concerns the packaging approach described in the factory record; it is not a third-party packaging certification. A buyer with a specific drop, vibration or transport-test requirement should define the standard and evidence separately.

Useful loading evidence may include container number, seal number, loading date, total cartons by SKU, loading photographs, door-area photographs and the final packing list. If the buyer requires a third-party loading supervision service, the company and scope should be agreed before loading.

Confirm the Final Plan Before Production

Before production quantities are frozen, the buyer and supplier should sign off:

  • model and revision;
  • quantity by SKU;
  • pieces per carton;
  • approved carton dimensions and gross weight;
  • floor-loaded or palletized method;
  • mixed-loading sequence;
  • labels and packing-list format;
  • remaining space or contingency policy;
  • responsible party for final loading approval.

MOQ, production lead time and final container-loading quantity remain project-specific. Bestone should confirm them for the exact model mix, packaging configuration, order quantity and current production schedule.

Procurement FAQ

Can buyers use the loading quantity from a previous order?

Only if the product configuration, carton dimensions, protection and loading method are unchanged and the supplier reconfirms the figure.

Is a theoretical cube calculation a confirmed loading plan?

No. It is an estimate. A confirmed plan must consider carton orientation, practical loading gaps, weight distribution and the interaction between mixed carton sizes.

Which is better, floor loading or palletized loading?

Neither is universally better. Floor loading can use volume efficiently, while palletized loading can simplify handling. The receiving operation, damage-control plan and cost structure should determine the choice.

Can several folding-table models be mixed in one container?

Yes, subject to the approved packaging data, production plan and a feasible loading arrangement. The factory should confirm the final quantities and sequence.

Should the buyer approve packaging before confirming the mix?

Yes. The packed dimensions and protection method are essential inputs to the calculation.

Does an internal product load test prove packaging performance?

No. Product static-load testing and packaging performance are different evidence categories. Any required packaging test should be defined separately.

What should be included in loading photographs?

At minimum, show SKU identification, internal loading progress, protection at relevant contact points, door-area completion, container number and seal information when applicable.
