Open, Folded and Carton Dimensions: A Buyer Verification Guide for HDPE Folding Furniture

A folding table can have at least three valid sets of dimensions: its open operating size, its folded product size and its packed carton size. These numbers answer different procurement questions. Treating them as interchangeable can create problems in room planning, warehouse racking, vehicle loading, packaging approval and product listings.

Commercial buyers should therefore control dimensions as model-specific evidence. The RFQ, approved sample, specification sheet, packaging plan and inspection record should all identify the same model and the same measurement state.

This guide explains a practical verification method. It uses published Bestone product dimensions only as examples. It does not calculate container quantities or guarantee storage capacity, because those results depend on final packaging, orientation, clearances and operating rules.

Three Dimension Sets Serve Different Decisions

Open dimensions describe the product in its intended operating position. They help buyers review room layouts, table height, seating or work surface, aisle space and application fit.

Folded product dimensions describe the product after all approved folding actions are complete but before retail or export packaging is added. They help buyers review handling, storage racks, carts, doors and vehicle compartments.

Carton dimensions describe the approved packed unit. They are required for freight planning, warehouse receiving, pallet plans, shipping marks and loading calculations. A carton may be larger than the folded product because it includes protective materials, hardware packs, instructions, labels and clearance.

The commercial risk appears when one state is labeled as another. For example, using a folded product thickness as a carton thickness may understate freight volume. Using a tabletop panel dimension as an open product size may omit the frame or operating height.

Start With a Controlled Measurement Sheet

A useful measurement sheet should identify:

  • supplier name and factory location;
  • buyer SKU and supplier model;
  • specification revision and date;
  • sample or lot identification;
  • measurement state: open, folded product or packed carton;
  • orientation of length, width and height;
  • measurement instrument and unit;
  • actual readings and agreed tolerance;
  • photo references; and
  • inspector name and date.

Record dimensions in a fixed order, such as length x width x height, and define the orientation. Do not assume that every supplier uses the same order. For a square table, the two plan dimensions may be equal, but folded width and folded thickness still need clear labels.

The sheet should also say whether handles, latches, feet, hinges or other projections are included. A rack opening or carton must accommodate the full handling envelope, not only the nominal tabletop panel.

Verify the Product in the Open Position

Before measuring, place the sample on a reasonably level surface and open it according to the approved instructions. Confirm that legs and supports are fully deployed and any specified locking points are engaged. A partially opened frame can produce a misleading height or width.

Measure the extreme outside points of the assembled product unless the purchase specification defines another method. Record tabletop length and width, overall operating height, and any model-specific feature that affects fit.

The buyer should also compare the measured product with the approved model photo. Dimensions alone may not reveal that the wrong frame or tabletop version was supplied.

Avoid rounding away meaningful differences. If the supplier publishes dimensions in centimeters and the buyer sells in inches, retain the controlled metric values and document the conversion method used in customer-facing materials.

Verify the Fully Folded Handling Envelope

The folded measurement must begin with a defined end state. Confirm whether only the legs fold, whether the tabletop folds at the center, whether a handle projects, and whether a latch holds the product closed.

After folding the product completely, measure the maximum outside envelope. Do not press flexible parts inward solely to achieve a smaller reading unless the approved packing method consistently restrains them in that position.

For handling review, consider more than the three numbers:

  • location of the carrying handle;
  • exposed hinges or frame members;
  • points that may catch on racks or neighboring products;
  • stability when stored flat or upright;
  • required protective separators; and
  • clearance needed to remove one unit safely.

These observations are not a substitute for a workplace handling assessment. Product weight, packaging, labor rules and local safety requirements must be reviewed separately.

Keep Product Dimensions Separate From Carton Dimensions

Carton data should be approved only after the packing configuration is defined. Ask for the number of units per carton, protective materials, hardware placement, label position, carton closure and the final outer dimensions.

For export planning, request actual packed-unit measurements from an approved packing sample. A calculation based only on the folded product may miss corner protectors, foam, bags, inserts or carton board thickness.

If the project uses more than one model, maintain a separate packing line for each model and revision. Similar product names do not justify sharing carton dimensions.

Container-loading quantity should be confirmed against the final packing plan. Do not publish or contract a quantity derived from nominal product dimensions alone.

Apply the Method to Confirmed Bestone Models

BTE-1872 seminar table

The published BTE-1872 open size is 180 x 45 x 74 cm. Its published folded size is 180 x 45 x 4.5 cm. The model uses a one-piece narrow HDPE tabletop with folding legs; the tabletop does not fold in half.

The open and folded lengths therefore remain 180 cm in the published specification. Buyers considering this model for training rooms should separately review room layout and full-length storage. Carton dimensions, product weight and loading quantity must be confirmed for the approved order rather than inferred from the 4.5 cm folded product thickness.

BTE-3434FH square fold-in-half table

The published BTE-3434FH open size is 86 x 86 x 74 cm. Its published folded size is 86 x 44.5 x 8 cm. The tabletop folds in half, creating a different handling envelope from a table with folding legs only.

Bestone has also published a separate 200 kg internal static-load test record for this model. That evidence does not alter the dimension-control method. The applied internal test load is not a rated working load or third-party certification.

BTE-3096FH-2 reinforced 8 ft table

The published BTE-3096FH-2 open size is 244 x 76 x 74 cm, and the folded size is 122 x 76 x 8.5 cm. The current product page also lists an integrated carrying handle, a reinforced frame and an approximate product weight of 18.5 kg.

Its dimensions should not be copied to BTE-3096H, BTE-3096FH-1 or another 8 ft model. Each variant requires its own approved specification and packing plan.

One BTE-3096FH-2 sample passed a 350 kg / 771 lb Bestone internal QC static-load test on September 16, 2026. This is internal evidence for the tested sample and conditions. It is not a rated load, maximum load or third-party certificate.

Turn Measurements Into an Approval Record

Dimension verification should produce a decision, not just a worksheet. The buyer can classify each line as accepted, rejected, conditionally accepted or pending clarification.

When a value differs from the drawing or specification, record the actual result and obtain a controlled disposition. Do not silently rewrite the specification to match the sample. If a design change is approved, update the specification revision, packaging plan, artwork references and inspection criteria together.

For a production order, include dimension checks in the agreed inspection plan. Define the sample size and acceptance rule before inspection. The supplier and inspector should use the same measurement state and reference revision.

Procurement FAQ

Is folded product size the same as carton size?

No. Folded product size describes the product before packaging. Carton size includes the approved packaging system and must be measured separately.

Can buyers estimate container quantity from product dimensions?

Product dimensions may support early planning, but final loading quantity should be confirmed against actual carton dimensions, packing orientation and the approved loading plan.

Why should the specification define dimension order?

Because length, width and height may be reported in different orders. A controlled order and orientation prevent misreading.

Does a fold-in-half table always occupy half the storage volume?

No. The folded length may be reduced, but folded thickness increases and the frame, hinges, handle and packaging affect the final volume.

Are the BTE-3434FH and BTE-3096FH-2 internal test loads product ratings?

No. They are applied loads from Bestone internal static tests on specified samples. They are not rated working loads, maximum loads or third-party certifications.

What should a dimension-related RFQ include?

Include the model, required open and folded dimensions, measurement states, tolerances, packing format, carton data, intended storage or handling constraints, sample approval and inspection requirements.
